GREAT ORMAND STREET HOSPITAL

London

The project scope looked to re-configure some existing space, enhancing the hospital’s ability to provide exceptional care.

The project scope of works included the replacement of 4 No. existing LV Switchboards and an associated builders works package to see the formation of a new dedicated Electrical Infrastructure Switchroom layout.

This new layout included the formation of a new LV Switchroom, 2 new HV Switchrooms in preparation for further upgrade works and a new Appointed Persons (AP)/Estates Team office within an existing area of the hospital. The 4No. existing LV Switchboards were decommissioned with all loads in use migrated to a new LV Switchboard located in its own, newly constructed LV Switchroom.

Careful planning by the Playfords project delivery team was key to ensure that the LV Switchboard outgoing circuits and services remained operational during the works as they were serving life critical electrical services within a functioning hospital. Migration and transfer of the electrical circuits were performed under strict timescales to minimise any impact to the day-to-day operating ability of the hospital and its patients.

A significant element of the project was the requirement to modify a part of the existing building layout to form the 2 new dedicated HV Switchrooms, 1 new LV Switchroom and a new AP/Estates Room with Playfords taking on the role of Principle Contractor for the entire upgrade project on behalf of the hospital trust.

The architectural scope of the project was to upgrade the entire external façade lighting, including the supply and installation of lighting fixtures, lighting wiring systems and lighting control systems. Existing and aged lighting fixtures, wiring and controls systems were removed as the project progressed. Careful planning and regular meetings with the client team were necessary to ensure the hotel was able to operate and function in line with guest expectation in what is a prestigious area of London and close to many visitor attractions.
